Five Brits, One Charli XCX: The Night She Owned the Stage

The BRITs turned “Brat” this year after singer and songwriter Charli XCX became this year’s biggest winner. With five nominations including ‘songwriter of the year’, ‘artist of the year’ and best ‘British dance act’, XCX swept the board whilst raising more than a few eyebrows.

Clad in a see-through dress, which left very little to the imagination; both her attire and also Sabrina Carpenter’s raunchy performance cumulatively sparked 800+ Ofcom complaints.

Upon accepting her 5th win of the night, the superstar, originally from Essex, UK, said: “I am living proof that it takes a long time but you don’t need to compromise your vision.” She also lamented that she’s “always felt like an outsider, particularly in the British music industry,” but that all changed last year with her summer-meets-party album “Brat”, which had a significant cultural impact - it was streamed over 400 million times, XCX’s following on Instagram doubled from 3.5 million to 7 million and “Brat” was even included in Kamala Harris’ presidency campaign.

Charli XCX’s unapologetic approach to both her music and image has made her a pioneer in the pop world, inspiring a new wave of artists to take risks. Her triumphs at the BRITs were not just awards; they were a testament to her unyielding commitment to authenticity and creative freedom, propelling her into the global spotlight more than ever before.
