These days it can feel hard to find a decent animation film to watch that’s as good as the classics. Growing up we were absolutely spoilt rotten with both Disney and Dreamworks dominating the animation space.
Modern day animations just don’t seem to hit the spot for me, it’s like they’ve been rushed or lack substance or story and they’re pretty much a cash grab. But alas, just as I was about to give up completely on the drawn world, Inside Out 2 entered the arena.

Inside Out 2
The Disney Pixar sequel follows Riley, a young girl that’s entering puberty and is juggling all of these new emotions such as fear, envy and anxiety at a summer ice-hockey camp. She’s keen to impress her coach and new friends, but is riddled with self doubt. Totally relatable.
The way they handled sensitive subjects with such maturity made it a compelling watch. Although I’m sure the film’s main target audience was children, there was so much that adults could relate to such as nostalgia, who was drawn as an old woman! Genius.
I think what the film did well was delivering a heartfelt message, exploring the complexity of adolescence with wit, charm, and realism. The animation was not only visually stunning but super imaginative, and the nuanced storytelling provided both humour and depth for all ages. There were so many layers - and guaranteed everyone in the theatre took away something different from seeing it.
I absolutely loved it from start to finish - it’s easily the best film I’ve seen this year and in all honesty I preferred it to the original. Inside Out 2 has restored my faith in great storytelling in the animation space. I really hope we get a threequel, as there’s so much more to be explored.
All in all, Inside Out 2 is a must-see! 10/10!
